Shortly after this edition of Westword went to press with my follow on the mauling of murals before the Democratic National Convention, Sean Rice, the proprietor of Orange Cat Studios, finally got a call from the city in response to his complaint that Denver Partners Against Graffiti had wiped out a commissioned artwork on the wall of his gallery.
The mural of this story: Rice now has a meeting with city officials on Friday; with any luck, they’ll be able to arrive at some easy — and equitable — way for Orange Cat to replace its mural, and in the process educate the city to the importance of recognizing urban art. Unfortunately, it looks like Denver officials aren’t the only one who need to learn their lesson; a few days ago, someone vandalized the OBEY street-art poster that appeared on Orange Cat’s wall during the DNC (above), as almost a consolation prize to its art erasure.
