Marva Livingston Hammons Marva Livingston Hammons, head of the Colorado Department of Human Services under former Governor Bill Owens and one of the primary culprits behind this state’s benefits mess, collected quite a goodbye gift on her way out: Eight hundred twenty-three hours of unused vacation time, which netted her a farewell payment of $55,528.
But she didn’t need it to tide her over while she hunted for a new job: In January, she became managing director of strategic consulting for the Seattle-based Casey Family Programs, working on child-welfare issues across the country. Nice work if you can get it — particularly when those she left behind are still fighting to get their benefits checks.
Current governor Bill Ritter has since signed an executive order capping accrued vacation and sick time for department heads. –– Patricia Calhoun
