Remember Darrent Williams this weekend.

The Denver Broncos didn’t make the playoffs, much less the Super Bowl, but the Mile High cornerback with the frohawk who was shot to death on January 1 deserves some recognition from da Bears, the Colts, the NFL and all fans. The stage is set, the world will be watching, and the NFL has the opportunity to remind everyone that although there’ll only be one winner and one loser of Sunday’s big game, everyone lost something special when Williams was killed. Along with the national anthem, the new commercials, the passes, interceptions, the rushes, the hits, the cheers and the half-time show, there should be some public notice of Williams.

Notorious B.I.G. once said that you’re nobody until somebody kills you. Much like that of Biggie, Williams’ influence is even larger in death than it was in life. His death could lead to a victory in the battle against violence, rather than represent just another loss to violence.

Remember Darrent Williams Sunday. I’m sure he’ll be watching. — Luke Turf
