Joe Sakic’s retirement announcement scheduled for later today will no doubt spawn a bevy of salutes to the Colorado Avalanche captain and surefire first-ballot NHL hall of famer — but few more unusual than the one on view here. The montage combines clips from Sakic’s incredible twenty-year career — even a fight is on view, his Lady Bing not withstanding — with musical backing courtesy of Immortal Technique’s “Leaving the Past.” That’s keepin’ it real, Super Joe.
