Although Scream (due at the Marquis Theater tonight with Trees and Glass Hits) may be best known as the group Dave Grohl was in before Nirvana, the Washington D.C. hardcore veterans have a story that began long before the Foo Fighters mastermind joined. In fact, it wasn’t until the group’s forth release in 1988 — its first after leaving the famed Discord label — that Grohl became part of the band.
In its less than a decade together, Scream’s intricate guitar work and precision, hyper-speed rhythms helped lay the groundwork for hardcore bands to follow. Reforming in 2009, the band played a handful of shows before stepping into a full-on West Coast tour earlier this month, in support of its 2011 EP, Complete Control Sessions. This show is all ages, and tickets are $8-10. Doors open at 8 p.m., and bands start at 9 p.m.
