Kid Hum’s latest release, Love to Give, is not your typical beat tape. The production pulls together unlikely rhythms, piano-infused beats and hip-hop flavors across eleven very short tracks. Early on, “Haunting Memories” conjures a feeling of dark nostalgia, while “Passing Time,” with its stuttered bass line, is funky in all the right places. Hum is at his best on “Meat Jun,” and “Still Trippin” is especially impressive. With tracks this smooth, it’s easy to let Love to Give just keep going before you realize it’s over — but once it is, you can’t wait to get back on the ride.
