There is no musical genre that can contain Hunter Dragon’s songwriting, because it truly runs the gamut of styles and sounds. However, within each release, there is a sonic consistency. This time out, Hunter opted for a duskier, lo-fi sound and treatment for each song. In the live setting, a good deal of this material is more exuberantly performed, but for the recording, Hunter appears to have taken the melancholy tone of the lyrics into account and aimed for aural colorings to suit them. Few artists lay their imaginations as bare as he does, and this quality lends his music an immediacy and bold vulnerability that is impossible to discount. With Minutia, Hunter shows how musicians can not only describe dreams, fantasies and aspirations, but embody them as well.
