Technically, Howl at the Moon is a re-release of material from Eyes and Ears’ debut. Still, the vinyl brings a warmer sound to what were already excellent songs. This band and these tracks bridge the gap between raw rock and punk: “Howl at the Moon” sounds less like a throwback to 1977 than it does a rediscovery of what it feels like to dispense with the rules and just play music for fun, while “Slave Wage,” though musing about an unfortunate socio-economic reality, proves that it’s more rebellious to chuckle at the absurdity of it all. Providing thoughtful commentary rather than just raging on, together they make an ideal soundtrack for surviving the “new economy.”
