Since forming in Austin in 1999, Explosions in the Sky has had a bit of a charmed career for an instrumental rock band in the wake of critical backlash against post-rock. Ten years ago, Explosions released Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever to some controversy, for the cover art and the group’s name, perpetrated by people who should know better. But in subsequent years, Explosions carved a niche for itself with its emotionally charged songs and evocative live shows. The outfit’s public profile has been raised by the inclusion of its music in numerous movies and television programs, most prominently in Friday Night Lights. Touring in support of 2011’s Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, these guys will make the Fillmore seem less massive.
