Just got word of an intriguing free show tonight at Wax Trax records. Experimental cellist songwriter Valerie Kuehne is playing at 5 p.m. I hadn’t heard of her before, but a listen to the tracks on Kuehne’s MySpace page reveals an intriguing talent — nice voice, fascinating cello style and some pretty weird songs. Think of her as kind of a female Ian Cooke with a more avant garde bent and less pretty songs and you’re approaching the right neighborhood. Anyway, it’s last minute and all, but it is free (donations accepted, though) and early — you could catch her set, and still be out of there in time for dinner before you head out to do your usual exciting Friday night things.
