Adam O.N.E. Duncan, formerly of the Infinite Mindz collective, has launched his solo career with The CA, a stylistic undertaking with progressive sounds and beats. The production is largely handled by Food Chain’s Mass Prod, and the texture of the album, a mixture of synth and velvet, is smooth and unexpected. Lyrically, O.N.E. is in perfect order. Blending his voice in a variety of ways, he lays a perfect foundation. The songs come across as experimental stories of love disguised as party anthems, a testament to his exemplary songwriting. The dual strength of O.N.E. as an MC, coupled with abstract singing and notional themes, makes The CA more than a solid first effort: It’s a bona fide piece of hip-hop and R&B creation.
