There’s a lot going on right now in the culinary universe, but tonight’s fundraiser at Star Bar goes way beyond food and drink. Early last month, Mike Bass, a 39-year-old line cook at Biker Jim’s, had a stroke, and within an hour, he had another. And his medical bills, as you can imagine, are insurmountable, especially given the fact that he doesn’t have insurance.

“He was with us since day one, starting as a dishwasher, and then we promoted him. He was our hot-shit line cook, and now he can’t really be a line cook, says Biker Jim, who’ll be at Star Bar tonight, along with Great Divide, to encourage people to help Bass with his mounting medical expenses. “His medical bills are piling up pretty quick – they’re freaking crazy, and he can’t afford them. We love the guy, we want to get him better and get him back on the line cooking dogs,” adds Jim.

The benefit kicks off at 6 p.m. and continues through 10 p.m., with Great Divide beers on tap, a prize auction and other schwag that you can bid on; monetary donations will also be accepted, and 100 percent of tonight’s beer sales will go directly to assisting Bass.
