That signless, faceless University Boulevard restaurant space was, until recently, occupied by an outpost of the Spicy Pickle, a Denver-based chain of sandwich shops that first opened in 1999 and has since expanded across the state and the country.
But this University of Denver location has shuttered, and it’s not the only one.
This is the second Spicy Pickle in the area to shut its doors this year; the location on 8th and Colorado closed, too, a few months back.
Despite what it looks like, though, the company isn’t scaling back its expansion plans or attempting to shrink its presence in the market. An employee at the headquarters tells us the closures were franchisee decisions and that the Spicy Pickle is continuing to develop new restaurants in Colorado and beyond.
