At 11 a.m. today, after months of redesign and a last-minute delay due to construction, the Kitchen [Next Door] opened its doors, and welcomed a line of Boulder residents eager to try the pub-inspired addition to a Pearl Street family of eateries. The new restaurant, which takes the farm-to-table mantra introduced at the Kitchen seven years ago and applies it to a fast-casual concept, features a board of snacks, soups, sandwiches and salads — and not a single item is priced higher than $9.

The menu, revealed this morning on the spot’s new website, includes kale chips, quinoa salad, a roast lamb sandwich, lardo rosemary flatbread and, of course, the Kitchen’s tomato soup.

That list is paired with draft beer — like Ska’s Modus Hoperandi and Dry Dock Brewing’s Apricot Blond — and wine in kegs, including a proprietary red and a white, as well as several selections from California and Colorado.

In addition to the adult meal and libation options, the Kitchen [Next Door] is featuring a sizable kids’ menu, tested by local fourth-graders, which includes pint-sized lamb and pork sandwiches and an organic cheddar quesadilla. And the new eatery will benefit community kids in another way, too: [Next Door] plans to aggressively expand the Kitchen’s involvement in school gardens. As a start, the restaurant donated money collected from its friends and family opening to that cause — over $12,000 total.
