When El Gordo Loco shuttered soon after opening in Lower Highland, Karen Renz, owner of Park Hill-based Nanna’s Teas, picked up the lease to open a second outpost of her shop.
But there was a twist: In addition to dozens of varieties of loose-leaf teas, Renz also planned to serve breakfast, lunch and high tea from a sunny dining room in the old bungalow.
Renz gave the space a homey feel with a quick remodel, filling it out with linen-clothed tables, flowers and vases, and chalkboard menus on the back brick wall. The teas, spanning categories like herbal, black and fruit, as well as blended concoctions, which mix varieties of leaves into flavors like peach pie, cherry vanilla and, um, “Let’s get pregnant” (we’ll probably be skipping that one), are available in bulk packaging or for drinking on the patio alongside sandwiches, salads and pastries.
Nanna’s Teas is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. till 7 p.m.
