Apparently those threatened police stings — the ones ingrained into every server’s head during training — are real. Boulder’s Mateo, 1837 Pearl Street, was a victim of the college town’s undercover attempt to crack down on underage drinking, and it looks like the restaurant didn’t pass.
The Provencal bistro on the east end of Pearl Street is locked up tight, a big notice posted in the window declaring that it’ll be closed from Monday, November 8, through Thursday, November 11, for serving alcohol to a minor.
A less hideous sign graces the door, noting that the staff is deeply apologetic for the inconvenience.
The restaurant reopens for lunch on Friday.
