This week in Cafe Society, Gretchen Kurtz visited Troy Guard’s “modern steakhouse,” Guard and Grace, which didn’t quite live up to expectations — or its hefty price tag. For Chef and Tell, Mark Antonation talked to Dave Query of the Big Red F about being the first owner of Q’s in the Hotel Boulderado, which closed last week. But the big news was all at the newly renovated Union Station, where restaurants continue to open, helping to push the Denver dining scene to what could be a record number of openings this week. The Kitchen Next Door Union Station was among them, making its debut on Monday, complete with the circa 1950 Union Station Restaurant sign that’s now fully lit up. Also this week, Chris Utterback stopped by The Populist, which serves simple food and good drinks, for the start of our new Happy Hour series. After endless discussions of when it’s appropriate to take children to bars, we counted down the ten best kid-friendly restaurants in Denver. And in “Yeah, I ate that,” our fearless eater tried out the newest paleo-trend, buttered coffee.
