The classic remedy for soothing the pain of a bee or wasp sting is to apply a cold compress and baking soda. But if you’re stung by one of the nasty little buggers this summer, the contemporary treatment is to head to the Hornet for a medicinal Rum-O-Rita. Served on the rocks in a pint glass and tasting remarkably like Tang (the orange drink once preferred by astronauts), the frosty Rum-O-Rita is made with Bacardi O, Triple Sec, sweet-and-sour mix and fresh oranges. A couple of ‘Ritas (each $5) and you might even forget where you were stung. You won’t forget the Hornet, though. With ceiling-high windows brightening the rust-colored dining area and stylish bar, and with a pool room off to the side, the Hornet has a comfy neighborhood-bar feel during the week. On weekends, it lures the hipster crowd with live jazz on Saturday nights and a fabulous brunch on Sunday mornings. Red welt from hornet sting not necessary for entry.
