Q: My fiancée is flying in over the holidays, and I’d like to take her out for a romantic dinner with some slow dancing afterward. Is there such a place in downtown Denver?

A: Not only is there no such place downtown, but you’d have to drive pretty far out of Denver (say, to Chicago) to find dinner combined with slow dancing. The Mercury Café (2199 California Street, 303-294-9281) still offers its funky-dancing thang, and you can two-step to live country-and-Western bands at either location of Trail Dust Steak House (7101 South Clinton Street, Englewood, 303-790-2420, and 9101 Benton, Westminster, 303-427-1446). Otherwise, your best bet is to eat at the romantic Tante Louise (4900 East Colfax Avenue, 303-355-4488) and then swing by Polly Esther’s (2301 Blake Street, 303-382-1976), where, with any luck, you’ll be able to cuddle close with your lady to “Copacabana.”
