Sitting in the shadow of the Pepsi Center, Brauns Bar and Grill has been a prime hangout for Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets fans since it opened in 2002.

But when the seasons are over, things can get a little quiet over there, which is why owner Troy Johnston and his business partners have opened Brauns on Blake in the former Blake Street Tavern location at 2401 Blake Street. (The Tavern has moved to 2301 Blake.)

“In the summer, the other location isn’t hit that hard,” says Brauns on Blake manager Heather Martenson. “We kind of wanted to cover the whole spread.” The new location is just a stone’s throw from Coors Field and will likely become a baseball hangout; it will feature the same upscale sports bar fare as the original, including salads, sandwiches and big burgers.

Brauns on Blake opened softly on Tuesday and will officially open tomorrow, celebrating with happy-hour drink specials all weekend.
