Last August, we told you about the arrest of Matthew Burnett after a friend of his turned up dead. The initial speculation was that he’d killed the man after catching him with his wife. Now, Burnett has been sentenced in the slaying, as well as for possessing a slew of…
Yesterday morning, we told you that rescue operations had resumed in the search for Danny Nichols, Clancy Nichols and Wes Hawkins, who were apparently swept away in a massive Western Slope mudslide over the weekend. As you can tell by this photo, Gary Lee’s Motor Club & Grub boasts a rather large bar — which should indicate the sort of intoxicant in which the venue specializes. Nonetheless, Israel Perez, who’s racked up 48 charges, nineteen of them felonies, since 1993, allegedly chose this location to…
On May 17, 2009, The Latest Word launched the Mile High Murder archive. MHM recently marked its fifth anniversary — and while the homicide numbers are lower than they were last year, the total is nothing to celebrate. In year four of the archive, which encompassed the Aurora theater shooting,…
In the months since limited marijuana use and possession became legal for adults 21 and over, we’ve been seeking out statistics related to driving under the influence of marijuana in the hope of determining how the number of offenses compares to alcohol-related DUIs. Earlier this month, for instance, we revealed…

KREX-TV in Grand Junction, for which I interned many, many years ago, takes a highly unusual approach to its latest booking-photos roundup. The station doesn’t identify anyone or reveal why they were made to pose for a mug shot — which inspires the viewer to use his imagination. Here are…
