Go ahead: Risk the thirty-minute drive today and you’ll find yourself savoring autumn on the Front Range during the Mountain Area Land Trust Watershed Trail Festival, happening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along the scenic Beaver Brook Watershed, which is located 3.5 miles west of Evergreen on state highway 103. The pristine 6,000-acre open-space preserve, snatched from the hands of developers by MALT in recent years, is home to a multitude of wildlife and will be celebrated with a plethora of guided hikes and trail rides, along with activities for children, a photography workshop and a picnic.

And, as if that weren’t enough for one beautiful day, more than 45 artists participating in the Paint, Sculpt, Shoot Evergreen plein-air painting series this month will be at work along the trails, creating landscapes that you can buy on the spot. Many of the same artists will sell completed works during a grand-opening event being hosted by a number of Evergreen galleries from 5 to 8 p.m. on October 5. Festival admission, which benefits the trust, is $10; for more information, go to www.savetheland.org/comm_activities.htm or www.evergreenarts.org.
Sun., Oct. 1, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
