You’ve been to the chi-chi weekend fleas, and they’re a blast. But face it: In terms of looking true, salt-of-the-earth flea-market culture squarely in the eye, you’re only getting your toes wet. At the Old North Denver Flea Market — hosted monthly from May through October by alterNative Voices and United Methodist Native Ministries — you’ll get an ancient taste of the real thing, where folks set up shop and banter and barter the old-fashioned way, as it’s been done around the world for hundreds and thousands of years.

Okay, so it’s really just another yard sale, but on a grander scale and with finer wares, and it’s kind of like a neat little secret that takes place, atypically, on Mondays in a parking lot near Highlands United Methodist Church, 3131 Osceola Street. Check it out: The first market of the season is open today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; for information, call 303-477-8442 or visit www.alternativevoices.org.
Third Monday of every month, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Starts: May 21. Continues through Oct. 15, 2007
