Peter Ustinov once called comedy a “funny way of being serious,” and that certainly holds true for the stylings of D.L. Hughley, a comedian who gained superstar status after the 2000 release of The Original Kings of Comedy. Hughley has written and acted in a variety of productions, hosting D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, a short-lived comedy news show on CNN, and also starring in HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, VH1’s Critics’ Choice Awards and S.O.B: Socially Offensive Behavior.
Now Hughley is bringing his serious talent to Denver, where he’ll perform shows at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. tonight and tomorrow night at Comedy Works South, 5345 Landmark Place in Greenwood Village; tickets are $35. Note: While this Comedy Works has recently opened a section to those under eighteen, tonight’s 9:30 show is eighteen and over. For information and tickets, call 720-274-6800 or go to www.comedyworks.com.
