So you’re fair, fat and forty? Your raven locks have all gone gray? Whatever. Once you hit a certain plateau, it all starts to go south, and who cares? You had your bikini-clad day in the sun, and it’s time to simply enjoy yourself — a pastime that just got a little easier, now that Harriet’s has come to town. Owner/ designer Harriet Gibson, a Coloradan who recently returned from a long stint in San Francisco, brought the boutique, which caters directly to ladies like you, to Cherry Creek North, where she’s cheerfully set up shop on a busy corner.
Gibson, a customer-service junkie with the neighborly vibe of a back-fence yakker, specializes in what she calls “elegant casual” couture: loose, unstructured, one-size-fits-all clothing in beautiful, comfy natural-fiber fabrics, created by small designers such as NoBlu, URU and Breakfast in Tokyo, as well as styles from a Colorado stable that includes Denver’s Carol Mier, a weaver from Creede, artful handbags from Alice’s Tapestries (with gorgeous tasseled clasps that double as one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces) and Gibson’s own label, a line she creates in the back of the shop. Also in store: tastefully embellished, lax linens; Asian-inspired jackets; lightweight and reversible all-weather coats with pleated collars in luscious colors, perfect for throwing on for a spring evening at the theater. And trust Gibson to not overstock any one size or style. “This is a neighborhood,” she says. “You don’t want your neighbor to be wearing the same thing.”
