It won’t be easy for some folks to get to tonight’s Logan Lecture at the Denver Art Museum, with a stretch of I-25 closed during the presidential debate at the University of Denver. But it’s worth braving the urban jungle to hear Lucas Reiner, who’s known for, among other things, his strange portraits of Los Angeleno trees that have been altered to cohabit with urban settings.

“I now see Los Angeles differently, especially the insistent dedication of nature to grow in spite of the restrictions placed upon it and the forms that result from this,” Reiner writes in an artist’s statement. “By removing all context and environment from this subject matter, I invite the viewer to focus and meditate on those forces which have shaped ordinary forms in unseen ways.”
Find out more when he speaks at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton Building’s Sharp Auditorium, at the the Denver Art Museum. Admission ranges from $8 to $18; visit the Logan Lecture page online for information and reservations.
