Khyentse James is a woman on a mission — a mission to eliminate nostalgia for the past by bringing it into the present. Earlier this year, she organized the inaugural Tiki Ball and brought back her successful 1940s Ball, and tonight she’ll host her third annual 1940s White Christmas Ball, at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, a venue that will allow her to add some new twists.
“We’re going to have the whole main street from It’s a Wonderful Life built inside, with food trucks and street lamps,” James says. “We’re re-creating a 1940s-themed salon, and we’ll be doing hair and makeup and styling, so girls can come in and get their whole pinup style done.”
There will also be a New Year’s Eve-style balloon drop with a live broadcast to Facebook, Twitter and the 1940s Ball website, and late-night dancing, a Christmas-themed burlesque show and a rockabilly holiday show starting at 11 p.m. — so night owls can keep the party going.
