“This is the only time I will ever promote drinking and driving,” says Ben Lochridge, a bartender at Park House, which will kick off its first Mario Kart 64 Tournament tonight on a big-screen TV. Combatants will battle for various prizes, including bar tabs and bragging rights.
“Mario Kart is definitely the most popular game,” says Lochridge about the games available on the Nintendo 64, which is located inside the tavern’s comfy couch-equipped “living room.” “I thought it would be fun to add some friendly competition and make it into a tournament.”
Engines will start at 5:30 p.m. at Park House, 1515 Madison Street. There’s no cost to play, and the winner goes home without having to pay his or her food or bar tab. (Second place gets half off the tab; third place gets a free pitcher.) Trash talking is encouraged.
