Regina Benson’s On Fire was inspired by her trials last summer when Benson was forced to evacuate her home in Golden because of an approaching wildfire.
Below (and in this week’s Westword), Michael Paglia writes on her new show and how she came out of the approaching flames.
“…(luckily, her property was spared), and her views of the fire from down the hill inspired several pieces in On Fire. But Benson says she’s been obsessed with fire for a long time, and some of the other pieces here refer to molten lava or embers.”
Below are photographs of Benson’s works from the show, which is paired with Sherry Wiggins’ Prayers for Others. Both shows are at the Ice Cube Gallery, 3320 Walnut Street. The shows run through October 8.
