No one can accuse zombies of getting the short end of the pop-culture stick, but let’s be real: They can only get more ridiculous. With Kill! Kill! Or Die!, the undead meme reaches the natural next stage — and a physical one — when it’s reborn as a rock opera.

Created by Omari Tau, a longtime member of Disney’s traveling Lion King, the staged reading finds shuffled footing when a meteor makes its way from the cosmos to a hospital full of lusty nurses and doctors. Think a revamp of Rocky Horror Picture Show that’s more dependent on music and perhaps even less suitable for children. (Really, don’t bring them. The musical’s creators warn against it.)

Instead, bring a sense of humor, an open mind and, for best results, an empty stomach. According to a statement on his website, director Tau concocted the overtly ridiculous ’80s-themed monster bash for the sole purpose of showcasing his friends — as brain-eaters. “That’s all,” says Tau. “Not too much.”

Kill! Kill! Or Die! will take the stage at the Aurora Fox, 9900 East Colfax Avenue, at 7 p.m.; tickets are $15. For more information call 303-739-1970 or go to www.aurorafoxartscenter.org.
