It’s no secret that when legislators are looking to trim education expenses, arts programs often receive the first — and worst — lopping.

“There have been a great deal of programs at the Denver School of the Arts that have seen a shortfall due to statewide budget cuts,” says DSA public-relations volunteer Angelle Fouther. To help fill the gaps, DSA partnered with Lumber Baron Inn owner Walt Keller to organize the Jewels of the Highlands house tour as a fundraiser.

“The variety of the buildings is what stands out most about the tour,” says Fouther. In all, eight buildings will be featured, including the Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens, the Adams Mystery Theater, and six homes ranging in style from art deco to Victorian.

The tour will be held from noon to 5 p.m.; tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Contact the Denver School of the Arts box office at 720-424-1713 for advance tickets or 303-868-1796 for information.
Sun., April 29, 12-5 p.m.
