“If you’ve ever wanted to be put in a trance by millions of images of dogs, now’s your chance,” says Denver FilmCenter programming manager Keith Garcia. Everything Is Terrible!, the collective of video editors that has been bringing bizarre VHS footage to the Internet since 2007, is showcasing its newest creation, DoggieWoggiez! PoochieWoochiez!, at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax tonight.
The film is an hour-long mash-up of dog scenes from found thrift-store footage, classic movies and bizarre old commercials that its creators say is akin to a remake of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 cult film The Holy Mountain. “They work every year to try to put together an hour-long film that incorporates all of this found footage and manipulate it and create these weird themes and make it really hypnotic and psychedelic,” says Garcia.
The creators will be on hand before and after the show so you can pick their brains on how they found those clips from commercials you remember watching as a kid. The dogs come out tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Denver Film Center, 2510 East Colfax Avenue. Tickets, $10 for Denver Film Society members and $12 for non-members, are available at www.denverfilm.org.
