So-Gnar’s Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour and Shred Circuit terrain-park competition kicks off this weekend at Echo Mountain with an amateur contest on Saturday at 9 a.m. ($20) and a two-day camp on Saturday and Sunday for snowboarders looking to improve their freestyle skills ($179 includes lift tickets, instruction, and entry fee; $129 for Echo passholders).
“We’re starting and ending on home turf this year,” says So-Gnar co-founder Pat Milbery, who will take his show on the road for a twelve-stop tour before the Shred Circuit finals at Winter Park on April 7. “The Shred Circuit’s meant to be a mid-level, pressure-free event where people can bring their crew out, get weird and have fun. We wanted to get away from that soccer-mom-driven mentality we were starting to see in other amateur contests and get back to something more like riding with your friends and having fun.”
Winners from each of the Shred Circuit contests will get an all-expenses-paid trip to the finals, where they’ll be paired with one of thirteen invited pros in a pro/am team competition. “Who knows? The ams could be showing up the pros,” says Milbery. “These young riders out there are hungry.” For registration and more information, visit www.so-gnar.com.
