Gorinto, the weekly night at Mercury Cafe, is always a good time, but tonight it benefits a particularly good cause: Mission Supports. With food prepared by SAME Cafe and a variety of musical acts on tap, the eclectic mid-week party aims not just to raise money for the non-profit, but awareness of the work it does.

Doo Crowder, EZKL and Hi-Strung — a newer band featuring members of Lady Parts — are among the avant-folk acts set to play for a mere $5 cover (an additional $5 gets you a plate of the yet-to-be disclosed, fresh-made cuisine). Gorinto organizer Corey Elbin also hints that he and Mission Supports founder Arnie Swenson may do a few Simon & Garfunkel covers, just for fun.

“It’s kind of nice because a majority of the acts playing tonight are involved with Mission Supports,” says Elbin, who often cooks and performs at Gornito, in addition to doing the booking.

In May, the night and non-profit teamed up for a similar, successful event. But because Mission Supports helps individuals who are often on long waiting lists for government care, the organization needs all the community support it can get. A silent auction featuring work by local artists is also on tap tonight; all proceeds will go to Mission Supports.
