What started out as a little sample sale ten years ago — conceived as an opportunity to offer more one-of-a-kind prototypes to the public by collaborating designers Debi Belk of Lele Knitwear and Laura Woodward of Garden Girl — has turned into a holiday tradition. The dressmakers have been joined for the past few years by fellow seamstress Jil Cappuccio, and together the three will host another Lele/Garden Girl/Jil Cappuccio Clothing Sale this weekend at Cameron Church, 1600 South Pearl Street. To celebrate the anniversary of their growing annual concern, they’re kicking it off tonight at 7 p.m. with one of the town’s most eclectic fashion shows, followed by a pre-sale to die for.
Imagine a mix-and-match of Garden Girl cocktail dresses in fun prints; long and hooded, fake-fur or wool hounds-tooth coats and trendy boatneck tees from Cappuccio; and Belk’s signature folk-inspired Lele marled knits in whammo colors — all marching down the runway in eclectic unity, to show, as Cappuccio notes, “how to wear them all together to create your own funky style.” And then — then — you get to rush down and have your pick of the ripest pieces on the racks. That in itself is worth the evening’s $25 price tag, though you’ll also be doing a good deed by helping to raise funds for Dress for Success. But not to worry: The sale continues daily for free, through Saturday, including evening hours on Friday.
