Anderson Farms’ thirty-acre corn maze, a main feature of its Fall Festival, depicts a horse-drawn corn planter next to a tractor-propelled planter — an homage to the Anderson Family’s hundred years of Colorado farming. Notes Rachelle Wegele, great-granddaughter of founder August Anderson, bringing so many people to the farm connects her family with the local community while also raising awareness about the importance of family farming.

“My dad, Jim, started doing the pumpkin patch fifteen years ago. He thought it sounded like fun, and we were looking for a way to educate people about farms,” Wegele says. “People are second, third and fourth generation from living on a farm, so the festival is a good opportunity to be on one. A lot of families now don’t have grandparents or great-grandparents to visit on a farm — there are just fewer and fewer.”

The Fall Festival is open daily through October 30 at Anderson Farms, 6728 County Road 3 1/4 in Erie. The $10 to $12 admission fee includes a hayride to the pumpkin patch (with a stop to pet buffalo and Scottish cattle), pumpkin launching, pedal carts, mine-car rides and barrel-train rides. For hours and other information, call 303-828-5210 or go to www.andersonfarms.com.
