Brit-turned-Boulderite Gemma Wilcox takes character morphing to a whole new level in her one-woman shows. Far more than a quick-change artist, or even a Sybil-esque multiple-personalitied solo performance virtuoso, she bleeds seamlessly from male to female, flora to fauna, portraying everything from her main everywoman protagonist, Sandra, to a saxophone — all in the space of ninety minutes. A Pick of the Fringe shoo-in since the Boulder International Fringe Festival debuted a couple of years ago, Wilcox is back this year with more of the same…and a bit extra.
Using her intensely physical signature method, Wilcox will work some thirty distinct characters into her The Honeymoon Period is Officially Over Trilogy, a three-act wrap-up of works she’s developed over the past five or six years, when the show opens for its six-performance Fringe run tonight at 8 p.m. in the East Theater at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street, Boulder, and continues through August 26.
