Jacquie Van Horne believes that artists who are mothers, too, need to stick together, because — as she writes on her Facebook page — “Motherhood is not the time to put the paintbrush down.” That’s why she created Artistic Mamas, which is as much a celebration of mothers who paint and sing and dance and write as it is a simple support network for imaginative women who must balance parenting and art in their lives.
It’s also the undercurrent and driving force behind Artistic Mamas Presents: A Gathering of Women Artists, a joyful art and craft exhibit and performance showcase for a whole village of creative local women.
The event’s fine art gallery and craftswomen exhibit both open tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Su Teatro at the Denver Civic Theater; performances in many disciplines, from live painting and spoken word to dance and instrumental music, begin at at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online in advance for $7 or two for $12 and the price goes up to $10 each at the door. Visit the Facebook event page for details.
