There are many easy reasons to spend an afternoon and evening drinking beer and listening to free music with your neighbors, but Paul Nashak of Mountain Sun says the fourth annual Vine Street Uptown Neighborhood Block Party and Brewer’s Olympics is about more than that.
“One thing that’s important to us is supporting the communities around us,” he explains. “The Uptown neighborhood around Vine Street just blew us away — what a tight and amazing neighborhood it is — and we wanted to do something to celebrate that community.” And, he adds, it benefits the grassroots political foundation New Era Colorado: “One hundred percent of all proceeds from food and drink goes to New Era. Last year, I think we gave them $10,000.”
But, yeah, the fun part figures into the equation, too, and there’s plenty of that. In addition to a beer garden and music by Drunken Hearts and a Colorado combo led by the String Cheese Incident’s Keith Moseley, the event centers around the Brewer’s Olympics, which pits teams of two from more than ten regional breweries against each other in silly contests, including tricycle races, an obstacle course and — ick! — a yeast-filled-balloon toss. The crowds will begin to gather for the competitions at 1 p.m. and will stay late for the music, which ends at 9 p.m., at Vine Street Pub & Brewery, 1700 Vine Street. Admission is free; get more information online at mountainsunpub.com.
