Catholic Girls features Cole Paulson of Perspective, Tim Espiritu of Cheyenne’s Reproacher, and Andy Robbins, drummer for the now-defunct local hardcore staple Bankrobber. Although the band’s brand of punk and grind-infused hardcore takes brief detours into doomy dirges — as in the intros for “Dead Fawn” and “1996” — the rest of the album is a frantic assault on the senses and anything else exposed to its sound waves. There isn’t a padded room safe enough to truly enjoy yourself when listening to Distant. In fact, you might want to make sure you’re at least ten feet from anything expensive or fragile during this EP’s fifteen-minute run time. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
