The Lighthouse Writers Workshop is well known among local writers, but it has also become a stop for visiting authors, who give readings and teach classes on their way through town. Now, works by those authors will be available for sale at the Lighthouse Writers Workshop Community Book Fair.
“Some of them are bestsellers and really well known, but a lot of them aren’t as well known,” explains Lighthouse development director Laurie Wagner. “We’re trying to invite the community in to meet a few of these local writers, too.”
Visiting faculty and local authors will be on hand for two days filled with free literary events and book shopping; activities include a reading about five great Denver bike rides from writer Jay Kenney and a Q&A with High Plains Book Award finalist Jenny Shank. Stop by to browse the books, and leave with something new to read and new ideas for writing.
“As a reader, books can transform our lives,” says Wagner. “They allow us to experience more than we have in our own lives, and that often helps us grow in a variety of ways.” The first annual Lighthouse Book Fair kicks off today with coffee, doughnuts and opening remarks from Deputy Mayor Cary Kennedy and Tattered Cover owner Joyce Meskis at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.; tomorrow’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All activities take place at the Lighthouse Writers Workshop, 1515 Race Street.
