Today is Chris Barber’s birthday, and to celebrate, he’ll be in full-on Velvet Elvis form tonight at the Skylark. Should be a doozy. The Spiv frontman hasn’t channeled The King in a while — tearing his achilles tendon this past January slowed him down a bit. Anyhow, he’s back and to commemorate the occasion, we’ve posted a few tracks from the forthcoming, newly remastered EP from Mama, another of Barber’s projects, which also includes Chris Woodward and the always explosive Jeff Leonetti from National Blues Arsenal. Zeppelin is clearly a touchstone for these fellas, but the cats do it so well, it won’t matter where it came from. Have at it, man. Shit’s solid. — Dave Herrera
