The second annual Iron Artist live-art competition at The Other Side Arts borrows the Iron Chef “kitchen stadium” concept and brings it to the gallery, where fifteen artists will battle it out in a live contest built around one secret ingredient that won’t be revealed until today at noon.

“The most interesting aspect is the secret ingredient,” says Charles Lefkowitz, a metalworker who is a resident artist at The Other Side Arts and competed in the last event, which featured brown bags full of board games as the secret sauce. “I’d never tried to create art at speed before, in front of people, in a live, timed event. It’s really intense, but it’s a blast. It’s also a great opportunity for people to come in and see a completely diverse group of artists working and see how completely different people interpret a creative challenge.”

The challenge runs from noon to 6 p.m. at The Other Side Arts, 1644 Platte Street; artists will be judged on Best Creative Use of Materials and other categories. Spectator tickets are $10. For more information, or to make a donation to support an Iron Artist in the competition, visit www.theothersidearts.com.
Sat., Aug. 20, 12-6 p.m., 2011
