Independent, the latest release from the rapping/producing duo of James Ray and Lenny Lenn, is brilliantly unapologetic from the start. Over the course of fifteen solid tracks, which are chock-full of guest appearances, the brothers declare their independence with sturdy rhymes over diverse prodution. On the standout “You’ll See,” featuring Whygee, the two unabashedly lay out their approach, talking about how they’re striving to make their way in the rap game on their own. Elsewhere, Julox turns in an impressive performance on “Can You Dig It,” but when it comes to lyrics, James Ray walks away with that joint. Overall, it’s clear the two siblings gave it all they’ve got on this one, and, quite frankly, they nailed it.
