Hate it or love it, like a cockroach covered in leopard-print spandex, ’80s arena metal has crawled forth intact after surviving grunge, boy bands, ringtone rap and now Bieber.
Last night, twenty-somethings who looked like they fell out of a time-traveling telephone booth from 1989 flocked to the Bluebird Theater with big hair, tight black T-shirts and a love for hair-metal revivalists Steel Panther.
Even though it’s mostly a novelty these days, the fashion (as it did in the ’80s) still seems to override the music, which, in most cases, was frat-boy rock that was just dunked in handle of well whiskey and then had a stripper’s baby powder sprinkled on top.
For whatever reason, fans love to dress like Slash or Nikki Sixx or C.C. DeVille, and they did just that last night at the Steel Panther show at the Bluebird. God love ’em, they’re a dedicated bunch. Here are the 15 best-dressed fans as shot by Aaron Thackeray:
