At Avery Brewing Company’s third annual Four on the Fourth 4K, being fat — and fast — could pay off. That’s because the fastest male and female runners will each win their weight in Avery beer. The painful truth, however, is that “the winner probably isn’t going to be a 200-pound person,” says Avery spokesman C.V. Howe. “I’m guessing about 100 pounds for the women and 150 to 160 for the men. It’s Boulder, so we get some pretty competitive people up here.”
And how much beer would add up to 160 pounds? About twenty six-packs, Howe calculates.
The real goal of the event is to make running approachable to the average person, which is one reason the race is only a 4K (that, and because it’s on July 4). Joggers and even walkers are encouraged, Howe says, and all participants get a T-shirt and food. The winners and runners-up in various age groups will also win smaller amounts of free beer.
The race begins at 9 a.m. sharp at the Avery Tap Room, 5757 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder; registration is $25. For more information, call 303-440-4324 or log on to www.averybrewing.com.
