Husband and wife Cory Obert and Andrea Lecos marry fiddle and banjo and tell the story of their lives. They are inspired by bike rides, blackbirds, their two dogs and, most significantly, the amber-trapped past. They know words are inadequate and don’t use them very often, relying much more on the complexity of bluegrass music to convey simple truths. They have a few friends to play with, and they come and go throughout the album. Split roughly 50/50 between original and traditional tunes, with a Dylan cover pressed into the back half, In a Different Time is music that reveals sorrow only under some scrutiny. And scrutiny is probably not the way to approach these songs. Better to go about your business while you listen: Hard Pressed is hearty stock for a life of perpetual and simple value.
