The Denver Art Rock Collective is embracing their art rock forebears in early June at D.A.R.C Side of the Moon, a tribute to the music of Pink Floyd. To pull it off, they’re making the “Collective” element of their name a reality, performing as in various configurations featuring a rotating cast of artists from bands including Yerkish, New Ancient Astronauts, the Mourning Sickness, Jeremy “Babblin’ Brooks” Young, Little Fyodor & Babushka, the Inactivists, Amphibious Jones and 19 A.D.D.
Don’t expect this one to focus solely on the hits — or on the hits at all. The D.A.R.C group is known for their esoteric tastes and unusual modes of expression. Expect the famous songs to be all but unrecognizable and a focus on some of the weird back alleys of the Floyd catalogue.
Our money’s on a 22-minute accordion and theremin rendition of “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict” off of Umma Gumma at some point in the evening. It happens at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 5 at the D-Note in Arvada. You’ll almost certainly never look at Pink Floyd the same way afterward.
