On Sunday, September 7, 2014, Westword will host its twentieth annual celebration of the Denver dining scene, DISH, in Sculpture Park at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, where many of the favorite restaurants of Cafe Society writers and readers will be serving delectable dishes. The bright-orange empanadas from Orange Crunch always turn heads at food festivals. Gluten-free and filled with green papaya, egg, mung beans and meat, these empanadas were inspired by owners Leshner and Sarah del Rosario’s visits to Batoc, Philippines, Leshner’s hometown.
“We started with our infamous food cart built in the garage, worked hard to acquire our food truck and now we’re able to do anything with food,” Leshner boasts, “merging both Philippine and American culture through an awesome culinary experience.” Also on the DISH menu are the truck’s chicken skewers — marinated in the Crunch’s secret recipe — served with sushi vinegar slaw and pineapple dipping sauce.
Filipino-style street food is just one of the dozens of offerings you’ll find at DISH, which runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7.
