Word of mouth, grassroots cooperation and a triple-espresso burst of communal energy are all it’s taken to blast Denver’s Scattered Arts Collective into the stratosphere. What began last summer as a brainstorm between a musician and a poet has blossomed into a series of multi-disciplinary art parties so popular that they spill out into the streets in increasing numbers with each successive happening.
The spilling will be unavoidable at the collective’s latest effort, the Scattered Arts Underground Music Festival, which begins tonight at 8 p.m. in the 2700 block of Larimer Street. The event — an all-local extravaganza of live music, film screenings, spoken word, fashion design and art exhibits — is headquartered at the Larimer Lounge and the Meadowlark, but will also creep into three other venues on the block.
“It’s a gritty, urban music fest that’s almost like an art walk,” notes spokesman Danny Latzer. It’s also free. What better way to party arty until the cows come home?
